Rock legends to perform on Buttermilk Mountain.
Bob Dylan is slated to perform Sept. 1 at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day festival in Aspen, Colo. "It's been a long time coming," said festival executive producer Jim Horowitz, who has been trying to bring Dylan to the festival for seven years. "It's like getting to the top of a 20,000-foot mountain for me. He's definitely an artist who's reached that living icon status."

The outdoor Jazz Aspen fest, usually held in Snowmass Village, is expected to be moved to the Buttermilk Mountain base area because of a construction project. Phil & Friends, led by former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, will perform on the festival's Aug. 30 opening night, and Willie Nelson and Nickel Creek are set to perform during the Sept. 2 closing day festivities. Tickets for the event will
go on sale next month.
The June Jazz Aspen Snowmass event is slated for June 21-23. The opening night will feature Earth, Wind & Fire and Poncho Sanchez, while the middle night will feature a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald with the Count Basie Orchestra and Patti Austin. That night will also boast a "Directions In Music" performance by Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, and Roy Hargrove. The closing night of the June festival, held in a 3,000-capacity tent on the festival grounds, will feature performances by John Hiatt, Robert Cray, and Dr. John.
